06/21/10 Pack Your Kit

Blackstone Edge Studios, Portland’s boutique ad agency, has produced a hit You Tube series – Pack Your Kit - which features six Portland photographers being interviewed by former Portland photographer, Matthew Dae Smith. Thanks to its informative, yet humorous format. the series, which had its world premiere at Andy Batt’s Studio in late March, has garnered more than 10,000 hits in just 8 ½ weeks, with fans from all over the world clamoring for more episodes.
Blackstone Edge Studios co-owner - Philip Clayton-Thompson – conceived and directed the series, based on years of having to pack his kit for work on the road as a pro-photographer prior to opening his boutique ad agency. Each of the six Portland photographers chosen for the series was exceedingly forthcoming with information about gear, tricks of the trade, and fun repartee with host Dae Smith. BSE partner Donna Pizzi produced and co-edited the series, along with two Oregonians, Marshal Serna and Micaela Works. BSE flew up Philip Holahan, who shot the final episodes of “ER,” as well as such hit TV shows as “Boston Legal,” and “The Wonder Years,” from Los Angeles to shoot the series on the new Canon 5D Mark II. Hollywood film composer Steven Argila, recently interviewed by Edmund Stone on “The Score” on All Classical FM, did the music.
You can see all six episodes (Lars Topelmann, Susan Seubert, Andy Batt, Tom Boyd, Eric Holen of Holland Studios and Kim Campbell and Francisco Salgado of Campbell Salgado) and the trailer at www.packyourkit.com Other Sellwood locales featured in the series includes, “The Ugly Mug,” and “Garden State” food cart, both on 13th Avenue.
